saskia aimee violine
I am a violinist and visual artist – born in Munich, where I studied, as well as in New York City, graduating in both cities. Among my formative experiences in music was the exchange with violinist Sergej Krylov; in art, my studies at Parsons School of Design, which is very conceptually oriented, and various study stays in Italy, in Florence and Venice. I had the privilege of learning from professors such as Charles Harbutt (photography), Heide Fasnacht (sculpture), Kamrooz Aram, and Lorenzo Pezzatini (painting), who had a decisive influence on my work.
For me, the best inspiration – whether for art or music – comes from everyday life.
Music and art are essential to me and can function perfectly as a unity.
Of course, one can “just listen” or “just see”. But most of the time, both happen simultaneously.
“Music does not need visual support to unfold its effect – just as we don’t need background music when observing something intensively. Yet, we often hear while we see – or, in the words of John Cage: even ‘silence’ is music.”
My concert programs are usually built around a specific theme or motto, aiming to connect different genres stylistically.
Short BIO
Saskia Aimee Hein started playing the violin at the age of 3 at a Suzuki school in Munich. At 13, she became a junior student of Russian pedagogue Olga Voitowa at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. Further teachers included Prof. Markus Wolf (concertmaster of the Bavarian State Orchestra) and internationally renowned soloist Sergej Krylov in Italy.
Since the age of 6, she has performed regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in prestigious concert halls and venues, including Burg Lockenhaus, Schloss Elmau, and at television and gala events. She has won numerous competitions since her youth and performs with renowned musicians, spanning from Baroque to Jazz. Masterclasses with Igor Ozim and Zakhar Bron further enriched her experience. Since childhood, Saskia has also been active as a visual artist. Alongside her Master’s degree in Violin from the University of Music in Munich, she was awarded a scholarship for her visual work to study at Parsons School for Design in NYC.
After completing her studies in New York, she spent an artist-in-residence period in Venice in 2014. Numerous concerts in Switzerland and Italy followed, as a soloist, with her own duo, and with Camerata Europaea, including performances at the Biennale Musica.
In her concerts, she strives to explore the boundaries between popular music (such as folk, dance, or pop music) and sophisticated classical works, including compositions by both young and established contemporary composers. Her concerts are usually centered around a specific theme or concept.
